Being Last

Hi ~

1.  Word or phrase that came first: Me and the Gospel

2.  Emotion evoked:  sadness

3.  Invitation that rang true: “Keep following Me.”  As I read this passage I reflected on being last: last born, last chosen, last considered, last recognized.  But these “lasts” are not so bad ~ in fact, last is much better than not at all.  And besides, most of the “lasts” we experience in life are not on account of giving up home or family.  So here we are, stuck somewhere in the middle, not first, and definitely not the revered last as far as giving up our valued possessions for the sake of Christ and the Gospel.  But in the midst of this drab position of anonymity I hear the reminder that nothing else matters more in this journey than having Jesus as a hiking companion and the Gospel as a walking stick.  And all along the journey there are blessings for the poor in spirit, the meek, the mourners, and the peacemakers, even if they don’t sacrifice homes or families, or anything else, for that matter.  God knows, God sees, God cares, thus I am blessed.
